We women love to look good and especially those who are famous! This is the case of my patient today, who visited me for noticing a progressive drooping of the upper eyelids of both eyes.
I checked her medical history, visual acuity review, examination of the function of the eyelids, as well as the anterior and posterior segment of the eye; with all of the above, I diagnosed an Involutional Palpebral Ptosis.
Palpebral Ptosis is the lowering of the upper eyelid below its normal position when looking straight ahead. It can be from neurogenic, myogenic (muscle-specific) causes, alterations in the aponeurosis or mechanical. It is worth mentioning that involutional ptosis is linked to age, which occurs as we age.
The diagnosis is made in the clinic, with the medical history and the measurement of the muscular function in charge of raising the eyelid. Depending on whether the function is good, deficient or bad, the type of surgical approach is considered. Eyelid surgery is called Blepharoplasty.
There are different techniques to perform a Blepharoplasty and they are performed by an Ophthalmologist specialized in eyelids called Oculoplastic Surgeon. To end my story I would like to add that my patient was very happy with the result of her Blepharoplasty and she continues to be famous and shining!!!
